CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf receives Green Globe certificate with Gold status

December 11, 2024

The CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf has been awarded the prestigious Green Globe certificate for its sustainability practices for the eighth time. This year, the congress centre also received the special recognition of Green Globe Gold status - a milestone that underlines the team's continuous efforts in the areas of sustainable management, social responsibility and the environment.

‘We can only realise more sustainable events in close cooperation with all those involved. It is our goal to follow this path together with our customers and partners and to show that climate protection and first-class events are not mutually exclusive but complementary,’ emphasises Maria Kofidou, Managing Director of Düsseldorf Congress GmbH.

Green Globe Gold: An award for consistency and excellence

Gold status is awarded by Green Globe to members that have been certified for five consecutive years and consistently meet standards in the categories of sustainable management, socio-economic responsibility, cultural heritage and the environment. This special recognition requires independent audits as well as a comprehensive review of overall performance to ensure that an unwavering commitment is pursued in all core areas. In this year's certification, the CCD met 99% of all criteria relevant to international convention centres. Since the first certification in 2010 - further awards were received in 2012, 2015 and 2020 until 2024 - the CCD has stood for pioneering role and continuous optimisation.

‘Gold status is a significant honour that confirms our ongoing commitment to sustainability. For us, however, this is not an end point, but an incentive to further expand our measures. Our goal remains to combine ecological responsibility and economic efficiency in the event industry,’ explains Markus Demuth, Head of Quality Management at Düsseldorf Congress GmbH.

Sustainability as the core of corporate strategy

Ecologically and economically conscious behaviour is an integral part of Düsseldorf Congress GmbH's corporate strategy. In addition to Green Globe certification, Düsseldorf Congress GmbH is a founding member of the ‘fairpflichtet’ sustainability initiative and is committed to various pledges and partnerships:

> Net Zero Carbon Events Pledge: voluntary commitment signed in 2021
> Diversity Charter: signed in 2022
> Partner of the Düsseldorf Climate Pact

As early as 2020, an internal ‘Green Team’ of committed employees was formed at Düsseldorf Congress to actively promote the sustainability strategy and raise awareness of sustainable measures in all departments.
