Düsseldorf Congress has once again been awarded the Green Globe certification for sustainable event operations
February 15, 2024The CCD Congress Center Düsseldorf has been awarded the international Green Globe certification for its exemplary sustainability practices for the seventh time overall. The re-certification confirms the continuing commitment of the operating company Düsseldorf Congress GmbH to the topic of sustainability. Since its initial award in 2010 – as one of the first international congress centers worldwide – the CCD team has been able to continuously improve its sustainable practices.
"The increasing importance of sustainability in the event industry is undeniable. As the operating company, we view this change not only as a necessity but also as an opportunity for innovation. Our goal is to involve everyone on this journey – our customers as well as our partners, service providers, and our own employees. The re-certification confirms that we are on the right path with our sustainability strategy," says Maria Kofidou, Managing Director of Düsseldorf Congress GmbH.
A continuous optimization process
The CCD has been awarded the Green Globe certification in the years 2010, 2012, 2015, and from 2020 to 2024 annually, and has been able to improve its results each time. For the certification, the CCD was examined according to ecological, social, and economic criteria – including resource-efficient work, sustainable energy concepts, and reduction of climate-damaging emissions.
In addition to receiving the prestigious Green Globe certification, Düsseldorf Congress GmbH is also a founding member of the sustainability initiative "fairpflichtet" – the sustainability code of the German-speaking event industry – which the company joined in 2012. As another significant step in its commitment to environmental protection, the congress center signed the Düsseldorf Climate Pact in 2022.
"The event industry has a responsibility, and therefore, it can only be our common goal to embark on the journey with all stakeholders to realize truly sustainable events," explains Markus Demuth, Head of Quality Management at Düsseldorf Congress GmbH.
